The Federal Government has disbursed N5 billion to traders affected by the devastating fire that razed parts of Singer Market in Kano on Saturday, providing immediate relief to hundreds of victims.
Vice President Kashim Shettima made the announcement during a sympathy visit to the market on Monday, describing the inferno as a “national tragedy” that affected not just Kano State but the entire federation.
The fire, which erupted last week, destroyed goods and properties valued in billions of naira, leaving many traders in distress. Shettima, who was accompanied by the governors of Jigawa, Kebbi, and Imo states, prayed for the victims and asked Almighty Allah to prevent a recurrence of such disasters.
Speaking at the visit, the Chairman of the Singer Market Traders Association, Junaid Zakari, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the timely support.
He assured that the funds would be used judiciously to aid affected members and restore business activities in the historic market.
The donation is expected to provide immediate relief and support the rebuilding of livelihoods for hundreds of traders impacted by the blaze.
