Residents of Dambatta Local Government Area and beyond in Kano state yesterday remembered the life and legacy of the former Chairman, Alhaji Mahadi Ahmad Maliya, as Tuesday, February 17, 2026, marked forty days since his passing.
Alhaji Mahadi, who died on January 8, 2026, after a period of illness, left behind children, grandchildren, family members, political associates, and a wide circle of admirers.
His death drew widespread mourning across Kano State, with many describing him as a committed grassroots politician and a leader dedicated to public service.
During his tenure as Chairman of Dambatta LGA, Alhaji Mahadi was known for his close connection with residents and his efforts to strengthen local administration and community development.
Associates recalled his dedication to improving access to basic services and his open-door policy, which allowed residents to freely express their concerns.
Speaking on his father’s legacy, one of his sons, Alhaji Adamu Mahadi Ahmad Maliya Baffaye, said, “We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming love, support, and prayers shown to our family since our father’s passing. The solidarity demonstrated by friends, associates, and the wider community has been a source of comfort and strength during this difficult period.”
Community leaders described the late chairman as a man of humility, courage, and strong faith, noting that he believed in dialogue and collective progress. “His legacy is reflected in the respect he commanded across political and social divides,” one leader said.
Prayers continue to be offered for the repose of his soul, with family members and well-wishers urging the public to remember him in their supplications, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.
Alhaji Adamu further prayed, “May we all depart this world with faith and righteousness when our time comes.”
Forty days on, the memory of Alhaji Mahadi Ahmad Maliya remains alive in the hearts of those who knew him, worked with him, and benefited from his leadership.
