Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), challenging what he described as the unlawful invasion and search of his Abuja residence.
Kano Times reports that the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/345/2026, was filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
El-Rufai is seeking the nullification of a search warrant issued by a magistrate court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on February 4, 2026.
The warrant had authorised ICPC operatives to search his residence and seize items deemed relevant to their investigation.
Through his legal team led by Oluwole Iyamu, the former governor is asking the court to declare the warrant invalid and set aside all actions carried out pursuant to it.
He is also contesting the legality of the commission’s conduct during the operation.
Kano Times gathered that El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since Wednesday, February 18, in connection with an ongoing investigation by the anti-corruption agency. However, details of the probe have yet to be officially disclosed.
Meanwhile, his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, disclosed via social media on Thursday that the former governor’s Aso Drive residence was searched by ICPC operatives.
“UPDATE: The Aso Drive residence of Malam Nasir @elrufai was today searched by the ICPC,” Adekeye wrote.
Also reacting, Ubong Akpan, counsel to the former governor, condemned the action “as unlawful, and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”
