Bayelsa Assembly Confirms Pastor Peter Akpe as Deputy Governor

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Peter Akpe as the new Deputy Governor of the state.

Akpe, a pastor and ordained clergy member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), previously served as Chief of Staff to Governor Douye Diri before his nomination.

The approval followed his screening by lawmakers, clearing the way for his swearing-in as Deputy Governor.

Akpe has had a career spanning the civil service and politics. He served in both the Rivers and Bayelsa State civil services before fully venturing into politics.

He was a two-term member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2019, where he served as Majority Leader throughout his tenure.

Between 2008 and 2011, he also served as commissioner under the administration of former Governor Seriake Dickson.

Akpe’s appointment follows the death of the former Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away in December last year.
