JUST IN: IGP Kayode Egbetokun Resigns

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has resigned from his position.

Details surrounding his resignation were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report. However, sources within the police hierarchy confirmed to Kano Times that the development was communicated to senior officers on Monday.

Egbetokun was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in June 2023 as the 22nd Inspector-General of Police.

Recall that Egbetokun, who attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 on September 4, 2024, was granted a four-year extension by the president following an amendment to the Police Act by the National Assembly, which paved the way for his continued stay in office.

As of press time, there has been no official statement from the Force Headquarters regarding the circumstances surrounding his resignation.
