Tinubu Pledges Swift Establishment of State Police

President Bola Tinubu on Monday pledged that the establishment of state police would not be delayed, assuring Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity.

Tinubu spoke at an interfaith Iftar with governors and senior officials at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Abuja, marking the first breaking of fast for the 2026 Ramadan.

“What I promise you is not to be postponed. We will establish state police to combat insecurity,” the President said.

He also expressed optimism about the nation’s economy, declaring, “We are out of the woods. We are out of the dark tunnel of uncertainty. The economy is showing up.”

Tinubu appealed to Abba Yusuf, Governor of Kano State, to exercise restraint amid political tensions in the state.

“I’m glad I see Abba from Kano… I saw the crisis on TVC News, please temper justice with mercy,” he said.

The President further urged leaders of the All Progressives Congress to be accommodating, especially to younger members.

“Let’s see the young ones breathe too. Tolerate everybody,” he appealed.

Tinubu commended Babagana Zulum, Governor of Borno State, for his Ramadan outreach to Muslims and Christians, describing it as “a very, very good spirit.”

He added that although complaints and commendations were coming from various states, unity remained key to national progress.

“As long as we bridge together and move together and determine to rescue this country, the best is yet to come to Nigeria,” Tinubu said.

Earlier, Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State, who represented the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, commended the President for promoting national unity.

“This convergence is a special situation created by God to remind us Christians and Muslims not to allow religious and ethnic differences to guide our political activities,” he said.

The event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and several governors.

The dinner marked the third consecutive year of Tinubu’s annual Ramadan Iftar with political and government leaders.
