Two soldiers and a local vigilante were killed, while three residents were abducted, following a bandit attack on a Joint Task Force (JTF) base in Gwana community, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday. The attack occurred on Sunday, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib.
Habib stated that the soldiers were attached to the 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi. He added that the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit engaged the bandits, neutralising about seven of them during the gun duel.
“Two soldiers attached to 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi, and a vigilante paid the supreme price during the encounter. Three members of the affected community were also abducted,” the statement read.
The police spokesperson said additional security personnel had been deployed to the area to protect displaced residents, restore peace, and prevent further attacks.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured the public that intelligence operations were ongoing to track the fleeing suspects and secure the release of the abducted victims.
He added that further updates would be provided as developments unfold.
