Explosions rocked Tehran on Saturday night, with thick plumes of smoke seen rising over parts of the Iranian capital.
Sirens also blared across Israel, which subsequently declared a “special and immediate” state of emergency nationwide.
The emergency measures include the suspension of educational activities, public gatherings and non-essential workplace operations, except in critical sectors.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the United States and Israel carried out the attack jointly, although there was no immediate official confirmation from Washington or Tel Aviv.
The strikes occurred amid ongoing diplomatic efforts between U.S. and Iranian officials aimed at reaching an agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme.
Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, who has been mediating the talks, met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance on Friday.
Reacting after the meeting, Albusaidi wrote on social media platform X, owned by a U.S. technology company, “I am grateful for their engagement and look forward to further and decisive progress in the coming days.
“Peace is within our reach.”
