Workers in Kano State have welcomed the removal of the State Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, whom they allegedly describe as a “tyrant leader and greedy,” while praising Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for the decision.
Kano Times reports that Governor Yusuf relieved Musa of his appointment with immediate effect, a development announced on Tuesday through a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the decision is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to allegedly reposition the state civil service for greater efficiency, discipline, and improved service delivery.
“The decision forms part of the ongoing efforts of the present administration to allegedly reposition the state civil service for greater efficiency, discipline, and improved service delivery across all government institutions,” the statement partly read.
The governor thanked Musa for his contributions during his tenure and wished him well in his future endeavors. Meanwhile, Yusuf directed that the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, Bilkisu Maimota, serve in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service.
Workers under the umbrella of Concerned Kano Civil Servants Residents expressed joy over the development, describing it as a long-awaited relief for civil servants in the state.
One senior civil servant, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “For years, the civil service has allegedly suffered under a leadership that prioritized personal gains over the welfare of workers. Today, we feel a sense of hope and relief.”
Another civil servant added, “We trust that the new leadership will allegedly correct the mistakes of the past, treat workers with dignity, and ensure fairness in all administrative matters.”
One middle-level officer said, “Governor Yusuf’s action shows he listens to the grievances of civil servants. We hope this marks a new era of transparency and accountability in the civil service.”
Another member added, “This decision sends a strong message against alleged greed and tyranny. Civil servants now look forward to working in an environment where their efforts are respected and rewarded fairly.”
It is recalled that in December 2024, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved a two-year service extension for the Head of Civil Service, select Permanent Secretaries, and senior civil servants.
According to the governor, the decision, formalized through an Executive Order he signed, was rooted in the Doctrine of Necessity and aligns with Section 5(2) and Section 208 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended).
