27-Year-Old Arrested for Burning Father Alive in Jigawa

Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, for allegedly setting his 60-year-old father on fire in Kazaure Local Government Area.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Shi’isu Adam, said preliminary investigations revealed that Nuhu poured a flammable substance, suspected to be petrol, on his father’s body before setting him ablaze.

Adam stated that the attack occurred on April 1, 2026, at around 6:30 a.m., in Magama Quarters, Kazaure town. He explained that the police received a report from Lokon Malamai, which prompted a swift response from the command.

“The victim was engulfed by fire, and the suspect was found with fresh burns and wounds on his forehead, arms, and toes,” Adam said.

The victim was rushed to a hospital but later died from his injuries, the police confirmed.

Adam further disclosed that Nuhu is facing patricide charges, a serious offence under Nigerian law, and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa, Haruna Yahaya, condemned the act and assured the public that justice would be served. He urged residents to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes and to report any signs of domestic violence.

“We are working to determine the motive behind this attack,” Yahaya said.

The PPRO also called on the public to remain calm, cooperate with the police, and provide any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.

“The police remain committed to maintaining peace and order in Jigawa State,” Adam added.
