The Forum of Senior Citizens on Elongation of Service has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf over the payment of retirees’ entitlements in Kano State.
The forum, an affiliate of the Kano State Pensioners Union, gave the commendation in a statement issued on Friday in Kano by its Chairman, Hamisu Muhammad Gwagwarwa.
Gwagwarwa specifically acknowledged the payment of the sixth tranche of retirees’ gratuities and death benefits.
“The forum congratulates His Excellency on the payment of the sixth tranche of retirees’ gratuities and death benefits on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. May Allah reward His Excellency abundantly,” the statement read.
The group said it was formed about 21 months ago following the state government’s decision to abolish the additional five years of service, which led to the retirement of affected civil servants across ministries, departments, and agencies on December 30, 2024.
It noted that its members accepted the policy and complied with the directive.
“The entire membership of the forum has accepted the abrogation and complied with the directives in all respects,” it stated.
The forum also acknowledged the state government’s efforts in the payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities.
“We wish to express our gratitude for how this administration has attended to both serving and retired workers, as seen in the payment of monthly salaries, pensions, and gratuities,” the statement added.
It further disclosed that its members benefited from the new minimum wage before leaving service.
The group, however, appealed to the state government to consider members who exited service following the policy change.
“We appeal to the government to consider the circumstances of our members who left service following the review of the service elongation policy,” it said.
The forum also urged the government to continue the settlement of outstanding entitlements.
It expressed appreciation to the Kano State Pension Board, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, as well as other stakeholders for their support.
