Stakeholders in Kano North Senatorial District have reaffirmed their support for the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, dismissing recent political moves by rival aspirants as lacking relevance and grassroots backing.
The position was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Chairman of the Kano North Political Stakeholders Forum, Aliyu Abbas Gumawa Gabasawa, following what he described as consultations and an assessment of the political situation in the district.
The group described recent declarations by some aspirants, particularly a former Minister of State for Housing, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, as “misplaced ambition lacking grassroots backing and relevance to the aspirations of the people of Kano North.”
It also questioned the credibility of meetings held in support of such ambitions, stating that the gatherings were “attended largely by individuals outside the immediate constituency,” indicating a disconnect from local voters.
According to the forum, the presence of such individuals does not translate into electoral strength, adding that the events were “dominated by political actors whose influence does not reflect the realities” on the ground.
The stakeholders further raised concerns over what they termed attempts to interfere in the political process of the district, warning against any move to impose candidates on the people.
They maintained that Senator Barau Jibrin remains “a tested, trusted, and result-oriented representative,” noting that his legislative record and accessibility continue to earn him acceptance across the constituency.
The forum added that Kano North is “not available for political experimentation or imposed candidacies,” urging political actors to respect the will of the electorate.
