Info minister bags Image Maker Award, reaffirms commitment to transparency

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has restated his commitment to transparency in government communication following his conferment of the Image Maker Award 2026.

Idris received the honour from Vanguard Media Limited, publishers of Vanguard newspaper, at a ceremony held on Friday at Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos.

Speaking shortly after receiving the award, the minister said the recognition reflects ongoing efforts to build public trust and strengthen communication around government policies and reforms.

He said the award comes at a critical time as the federal government intensifies reforms aimed at repositioning the country for sustainable growth.

“This award is a testament to the trust we strive to build with every Nigerian. Communication is at the heart of governance, and it must foster confidence, unity, and hope,” he said.

Idris stressed the need for transparency and continuous engagement with citizens and the media, adding that effective communication remains key to bridging the gap between government and the public.

He also noted that timely and accurate information plays a vital role in national security, saying the ministry is collaborating with security agencies and media organisations to sustain public confidence.

The minister commended journalists, government officials, and staff of the ministry for their contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s communication system. He also praised Vanguard Media for recognising excellence and promoting public service.

Idris pledged continued adherence to truth, accountability, and openness in public communication, describing the award as a call to greater responsibility.

Dignitaries at the event included the governors of Enugu and Taraba states, Peter Mbah and Agbu Kefas, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, and renowned cleric Matthew Hassan Kukah, among others.
