The Nigerian Army says troops of Operation Enduring Peace have rescued a kidnapped woman and recovered N8 million ransom in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Army described the operation as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks operating in the area.
Spokesperson for the task force, Chinonso Oteh, said the operation followed actionable intelligence obtained after the arrest of a suspect linked to the abduction.
He explained that the suspect confessed during interrogation, leading troops to the victim’s location.
“Through rigorous intelligence gathering and interrogation of an arrested suspect who confessed to the crime, troops were able to identify the victim’s location,” Oteh said.
According to him, the victim, who was abducted on April 19 in Bauna area of Shendam LGA, was found and rescued from Padam Forest in Qua’an Pan LGA, where she was being held by the kidnappers.
He added that the N8 million ransom paid by the victim’s family was also recovered during the operation and later returned.
Oteh said the victim was taken to a hospital in Shendam for medical examination before being reunited with her family.
He further disclosed that troops have launched follow-up operations in parts of Qua’an Pan and Shendam to track down other members of the gang.
The development comes amid sustained military operations across Plateau State targeting armed groups, kidnapping syndicates and illegal arms networks.
