The Kano State Censorship Board has suspended two Kannywood actors over their appearance in a video allegedly containing content considered contrary to moral standards and public decency in the state.
The board announced the decision in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that the action was part of efforts to promote discipline, uphold societal values and ensure compliance with regulations guiding film production in Kano State.
The statement, signed by Abdullahi Sulaiman on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the board, Abba El-Mustapha, identified the affected actors as Amina Uba Hassan and Adam Garba.
According to the board, the actors were sanctioned after featuring in a video that sparked controversy among residents over alleged indecent content.
It stated that the suspension bars the two actors from participating in any film-related activities within Kano State for one year.
The board explained that the law establishing the agency empowers it to sanction any Kannywood practitioner found violating its operational guidelines.
It further warned that failure to comply with the directive could attract stricter penalties under the law.
Reacting to the development, El-Mustapha urged practitioners in the Kannywood industry to avoid actions capable of damaging their reputation or bringing disrepute to the film industry.
He also called on producers and directors to comply fully with the suspension order, stressing that disregard for the directive would amount to a violation of the board’s regulations.
