The One Kano Agenda has commended the establishment of the Forum of Retired Security Personnel and Senior Civil Servants in Kano State, describing the initiative as a timely intervention to strengthen security and protect lives and property across the state.
In a statement signed by the Director-General of the group, Amb. Abbas Yakasai, and Secretary-General, Barr. Mukhtar Musa, the organisation said the formation of the forum would complement the efforts of existing security agencies through intelligence sharing and community-based security solutions.
The group noted that the gathering of retired military officers, police personnel, DSS operatives, paramilitary officers, and senior civil servants would significantly boost the security architecture of Kano State.
According to the statement, “Their years of experience, institutional knowledge, strategic understanding, and grassroots connections will greatly support ongoing efforts to maintain peace, stability, and social harmony in our dear state.”
One Kano Agenda described Kano as the commercial and cultural hub of Northern Nigeria, stressing that maintaining peace in the state remained critical to the stability of the region.
“The decision by these distinguished elders and patriots to voluntarily contribute their expertise toward strengthening security coordination and community engagement is highly commendable and patriotic,” the statement added.
The organisation also advised the newly established forum to prioritise community engagement and grassroots sensitisation in order to build public trust and encourage citizens’ participation in security matters.
It further recommended close collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, and community associations to develop sustainable local security solutions.
The group urged the forum to maintain a professional and non-partisan operational structure focused on the collective interest of Kano State and its residents.
“One Kano Agenda reiterates its support for every genuine effort aimed at protecting the lives, dignity, and prosperity of the people of Kano State,” the statement said.
It also called for periodic security dialogues and stakeholder consultations to address emerging threats and provide practical recommendations to government authorities.
The organisation further stressed the need for youth empowerment, mentorship, and deradicalisation programmes as part of efforts to tackle the root causes of insecurity.
“Kano belongs to all of us, and securing it is a shared responsibility,” the statement concluded.
