President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday formally received the All Progressives Congress (APC) Certificate of Return and party flag as the ruling party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027–2031 election cycle.
The presentation ceremony took place at the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, amid cheers from party leaders, supporters and members of the APC National Executive Committee (NEC).
Presenting the certificate to the President, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the document as a reflection of the confidence reposed in Tinubu by millions of party supporters nationwide.
“This certificate represents the voices of millions of APC supporters across the country… over 10 million members are represented in this certificate of return. Your Excellency, congratulations,” Yilwatda declared.
He further said Tinubu’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate was a product of overwhelming support from APC members across the federation.
“Having been returned as candidate of our party… we are sure of victory in 2027,” he added, describing the certificate as a “symbol of unity, symbol of common prosperity.”
Tinubu received the certificate alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima, who joined him on stage during the colourful ceremony.
The event attracted APC governors, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), National Assembly members and other top party stalwarts from across the country.
Tinubu’s formal presentation followed his emergence as the APC presidential candidate after polling 10.99 million votes in the party’s primary election conducted across 8,809 wards nationwide.
According to the party’s official results, the President defeated his only challenger, Stanley Osifo, who garnered 16,504 votes.
The results from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory showed a wide margin of victory for Tinubu, further strengthening his position as the APC standard bearer ahead of the 2027 general elections.
