A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, has adopted former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The decision was taken on Saturday at a special national convention held at the faction’s national secretariat in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
Jonathan, who was not present at the convention, was represented by a member of the House of Representatives from Bayelsa State, Fred Agbedi, who received the Certificate of Return on his behalf.
The adoption was announced before delegates and party stakeholders loyal to the Turaki-led faction during the convention.
The development comes amid the lingering leadership crisis within the PDP as the opposition party intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP has in recent months been grappling with internal disputes over its leadership and direction, with various groups within the party pushing different positions on its future ahead of the next general elections.
