Gov Yusuf to Cabinet: Perform or Quit, Negligence Won’t Be Tolerated

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has warned commissioners and special advisers in his administration to either improve their performance or leave office, saying negligence, poor performance and disloyalty will not be tolerated.

The governor issued the warning during the Hawan Nasarawa Sallah homage in Kano, according to a statement issued on Friday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Mr Yusuf said political appointees must justify the confidence reposed in them through effective service delivery and commitment to governance, stressing that accountability and measurable results remain central to his administration.

He urged members of the State Executive Council and other political aides to recommit themselves to serving the people and advancing the government’s development agenda.

“Any appointee who fails to perform up to expectation should either improve or be ready to vacate office,” the governor said.

The governor said his administration would not tolerate negligence, lack of commitment, poor performance or disloyalty from any political appointee.

Commending one of his cabinet members, Mr Yusuf singled out the Commissioner for Environment, Dahir Hashim, for praise, describing him as an innovative and hardworking official despite being the youngest commissioner in the state executive council.

He said the commissioner had demonstrated commitment, creativity and outstanding performance in promoting government activities and strengthening communication between the administration and the public.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to recognising and rewarding excellence in public service.

“Our administration remains committed to rewarding dedication, competence and excellence in public service,” Mr Yusuf stated.
