JUST IN: Peter Obi emerges NDC presidential candidate for 2027

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has ratified Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

The party took the decision at its national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.

At the event, Victor Umeh, the senator representing Anambra central, moved the motion for Obi’s ratification, while Ovie Omo-Agege, former deputy senate president, seconded it, drawing loud cheers from the jubilant crowd.

Before the declaration, Obi arrived at the convention venue alongside the NDC National Chairman, Seriake Dickson, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Obi and Kwankwaso recently joined the NDC after leaving the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

They reportedly dumped the ADC over internal divisions and court cases affecting the party.

Obi was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election.
