JUST IN: Kano govt merges Water Resources, Environment ministries

The Kano State Government has merged the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change into a single ministry.

The newly created ministry will now be known as the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change.

The Commissioner of the ministry, Dahir M. Hashim, disclosed this in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday, stating that the merger was approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Hashim expressed appreciation to the governor for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the newly integrated ministry.

“I am pleased to announce that His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the merger of the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change into a single ministry, now known as the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change,” he said.

“I am deeply honoured by the confidence reposed in me to lead this newly integrated ministry and drive the realization of its mandate in service to the people of Kano State.”

The commissioner acknowledged the challenges associated with integrating the two ministries, noting that the task would require dedication and effective coordination.

“I am fully conscious that this is not an easy responsibility. Bringing together two vital sectors with distinct but interconnected mandates requires commitment, coordination and hard work,” Hashim stated.

He, however, assured residents that the ministry was prepared to ensure a smooth transition and improved service delivery.

“However, my team and I are fully prepared for the task and remain committed to ensuring a seamless transition while strengthening service delivery across both sectors,” he added.

Hashim further pledged that the ministry would continue to focus on environmental sustainability, climate resilience and effective water resource management in line with the development agenda of the Yusuf administration.

“We will continue to work diligently to improve environmental sustainability, climate resilience and water resource management in line with the development vision of the administration of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf,” he said.
