The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has intensified efforts to resolve internal disagreements in Kano State following a meeting with leaders of the Kwankwasiya movement.
The party disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director.
According to the statement, a delegation from the national leadership of the Kwankwasiya movement met with the party’s national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, and members of the NDC leadership in Abuja.
Director said the meeting was convened to address issues between the Kwankwasiya movement and legacy NDC officials in Kano State as part of efforts to strengthen unity within the party.
He noted that Dickson and the NDC leadership were acting as mediators in the reconciliation process.
“The NDC leadership will not impose candidates in Kano State and indeed across the nation, as the party cherishes the virtues of internal democracy,” Director said.
He added that the party leadership was committed to fostering unity, inclusion and broader participation among members across the country.
According to him, the meeting lasted several hours and was productive, expressing confidence that ongoing consultations would further strengthen cohesion within the party.
The NDC also dismissed reports claiming that official results of its primary elections had been released, insisting that no such results had been announced in any state.
The party urged members and the public to disregard any purported list of primary election results currently in circulation, describing such reports as false and unauthorised.
Director reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a transparent and democratic process as consultations continue ahead of its forthcoming political activities.
