The Emir of Rano, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umaru (Autan Bawo), has urged local government authorities, philanthropists and other stakeholders to prioritise programmes that improve the welfare of women and children across the emirate.
The emir made the call during the launch of a free medical support programme for pregnant women and children at Rano-Dawaki Hospital in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State.
The programme, valued at millions of naira, was organised by the Sahima Charity Foundation.
According to a statement issued by the Zonal Information Officer in charge of Rano Zone, Abdullahi Musa Gyadi Gyadi, the Emir stressed the need for communities and development partners to support initiatives that would enhance the well-being of women and children.
He commended the Secretary of Rano Local Government and founder of the Sahima Charity Foundation, Dr Isma’il Yusuf Musa, for his contributions to improving the welfare of pregnant women and children in the area.
The Emir also praised the foundation for supporting married women, widows and young girls through vocational and self-reliance training programmes.
He further called on residents of Rano Local Government Area and other parts of the emirate to support programmes aimed at improving the lives of women and children.
Umaru also expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for approving the rehabilitation of the five-kilometre street lighting project in Rano and the reconstruction of major roads, including the Karfi-Rano-Rurum road.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the APC Caucus in Rano Local Government, Alhaji Wada Abdullahi Rano, pledged continued support for the foundation’s activities, particularly its financial and medical assistance to pregnant women and children.
He urged youths to emulate the philanthropic efforts of the foundation and notable individuals, including Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, to improve the living conditions of women in the area.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Rano Local Government, Muhammad Naziru Ya’u, represented by the Leader of Councillors, Alhaji Ahmad Jibrin Gidan Zangi, expressed satisfaction with the foundation’s achievements and assured it of the council’s continued support.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Sahima Charity Foundation and Secretary of Rano Local Government, Dr Musa, highlighted the foundation’s achievements within its first year of operation.
He said the organisation had provided medical support to pregnant women and children, offered vocational training to married women, widows and young girls, and sponsored the education of several female students.
Musa thanked Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, the Emir of Rano, Alhaji Wada Abdullahi Rano, BBY, Salbas and other supporters for contributing to the success of the foundation’s healthcare, education, skills acquisition and scholarship programmes.
Some beneficiaries trained in the production of Humra perfume, scented oil mixtures, liquid detergent, Izal disinfectant and modern graphic design, including flyer production, expressed appreciation to the foundation for the opportunity.
The beneficiaries also appealed to the Rano Local Government Council and the Emir of Rano to provide a suitable marketplace where they could sell their products.
