Senate Disowns Arrest Warrant Issued Against Mele Kyari

The Senate on Thursday distanced itself from the warrant of arrest reportedly issued against former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, by the Senate Committee on Public Accounts.

The upper legislative chamber also dissociated itself from comments allegedly made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District, during the committee’s hearing on Wednesday.

Oshiomhole was reported to have described the NNPC as a “bunch of criminals and thieves” while addressing issues relating to the operations of the national oil company.

However, the Senate said the actions and remarks did not represent the position of the Red Chamber.

The clarification followed reports that the Public Accounts Committee had issued a warrant for Kyari’s arrest over matters relating to an ongoing investigation.
