Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo, the member representing Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, is dead.
Tongo reportedly passed away on Friday in Abuja after a prolonged illness.
Reacting to the development, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, expressed sadness over the lawmaker’s death, describing it as a huge loss to the state and the nation.
In a condolence message issued by his spokesperson, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor described the late federal lawmaker as a grassroots politician, seasoned public servant and committed representative who devoted his life to serving his constituents and promoting the development of Gombe State.
According to Yahaya, Tongo made significant contributions to the welfare of his people through various constituency projects and humanitarian interventions.
“Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo was a passionate grassroots leader whose contributions to community development and public service earned him the respect and admiration of many. His demise is indeed a huge loss to our state and the nation,” the governor said.
The governor noted that the deceased would be remembered for his humility, accessibility and unwavering commitment to constituency development.
He prayed to Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late lawmaker, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family, political associates and constituents the strength to bear the loss.
