Tinubu felicitates Barau on birthday, lauds legislative contributions

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, on his birthday, describing him as a committed public servant whose contributions have impacted national development and legislative governance.

Tinubu, in a congratulatory message issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, commended Barau’s leadership qualities and his efforts in advancing legislation aimed at promoting national growth and social development.

The President praised the senator representing Kano North Senatorial District for what he described as his distinguished record in public service, both as a professional accountant and as a lawmaker.

“Senator Barau Jibrin has distinguished himself wherever he has traversed. Within the accounting profession, he stood out,” Tinubu said.

The President also highlighted Barau’s legislative record, noting that he had sponsored several important bills and played strategic roles in the National Assembly over the years.

“At the National Assembly, he had sponsored many important pieces of legislation. He also has the singular distinction of chairing both the House and Senate Appropriations Committees at different times”, the President’s statement continued.

According to the President, Barau’s political journey and electoral successes reflect public appreciation for his contributions to community development, particularly in the areas of education and healthcare.

“It was in appreciation of his contributions to the development of the community, especially in the areas of health and education, that the people of Tarauni Federal Constituency of Kano Central Senatorial District first voted him to represent them in 1999, even when he hailed from Kano North Senatorial District,” he added.

Barau, who currently serves as Deputy President of the Senate and First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, has focused much of his legislative activities on education, agriculture, economic development, youth empowerment and women’s development.

Before his election into the National Assembly, he served as Chairman of the Kano State Investment and Properties Limited and later as Commissioner for Science and Technology in Kano State.

Tinubu wished the lawmaker many more years in good health and continued service to the nation.

“I wish Senator Barau Jibrin more years of good health, wisdom and continued service to our country,” the President’s statement concluded.
