The Kano State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a businessman, Isma’il Makaye, who reportedly died at the residence of his girlfriend, a popular TikTok content creator known as Fati Cele, in the Danbare area of Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The deceased, who was involved in the cosmetics business in the Hotoro Tishama area of Kano, was buried on Friday following the incident.
A source close to the deceased said the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when the woman allegedly raised an alarm about a fire outbreak at her residence.
According to the source, residents who responded to the alarm discovered Makaye with burn injuries and bloodstains on parts of his body.
“People rushed to the house after hearing her shouting that there was a fire. When they entered, they found Isma’il with burns and bloodstains on his body,” the source said.
The source further disclosed that operatives of the Dorayi Babba Police Division had taken the TikTok personality into custody as part of ongoing investigations.
“The police are investigating the matter, and she is currently being held while inquiries continue,” the source added.
Friends of the deceased and the woman reportedly said the pair had previously separated following disagreements but later reconciled before the incident.
Another family associate said Makaye was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, popularly known as Nassarawa Hospital, for treatment but was later confirmed dead.
“He was taken to Nassarawa Hospital after the incident, but sadly, he did not survive. He has since been buried at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki,” the associate said.
The incident has sparked reactions on social media, particularly on TikTok, with users expressing grief and calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the businessman’s death.
Many users also urged security agencies to ensure transparency in the investigation and bring anyone found culpable to justice.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
