A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State and a governorship aspirant, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Amin Little, has distanced himself from claims of candidate imposition within the party, insisting that he and his supporters remain loyal to the party’s leadership and the ongoing consensus process.
This position was contained in a statement issued by his Executive Assistant, Adnan Mukhtar Tudun Wada, on Saturday.
The statement was in reaction to a press conference allegedly held by some stakeholders of the party in Kano, during which allegations were made regarding the imposition of a governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Tudun Wada, the individual parading himself as the party chairman in Kano no longer occupies the position following a Federal High Court judgment.
“It has been brought to my attention that some so – called ADC stakeholders in Kano held a press conference where they alleged the imposition of a governorship candidate by the leadership of the party,” the statement said.
“I want to state categorically that the so-called chairman of the party is no longer in that position by virtue of a Federal High Court judgment. The party will constitute a caretaker committee once it concludes the process of addressing the issue of aspirants for political offices across the country.”
The aide also dismissed claims regarding the existence of an Elders Committee chairman allegedly backing a particular aspirant, maintaining that no such appointment was made by the party leadership.
“There is nowhere that the party endorsed or appointed the so – called Chairman of the Elders Committee,” he said.
The statement further revealed that the party had convened a consensus meeting involving Ibrahim Ali Amin Little and another governorship aspirant, Ibrahim Khalil, during which both men agreed to respect whatever decision the party eventually reaches.
“The party held a consensus meeting with both Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Amin Little and Ibrahim Khalil, where the duo agreed to work together and accept whatever decision the party reaches regarding the person it chooses as the ADC governorship flag bearer in Kano,” he stated.
Tudun Wada questioned the credibility of claims that an election had already been conducted to determine the party’s candidate.
“While we are awaiting the final report of the consensus committee, we came across a press conference endorsing a particular aspirant and claiming that an election had taken place.
“If an election truly took place, why did Ibrahim Khalil sign a consensus agreement in Abuja if he believes in the authenticity of that election?” he queried.
He reiterated the commitment of Ibrahim Ali Amin Little and his supporters to the party’s internal processes and national leadership.
“We are loyal party members. We will not do anything that will undermine the integrity of the consensus committee and our great party. We are patiently awaiting the decision of the national leadership,” the statement added.
The aide expressed confidence that Ibrahim Ali Amin Little would eventually emerge as the party’s governorship candidate in Kano State.
“His Excellency, Ibrahim Ali Amin Little, remains committed to the development of the party, and we are hopeful that he will emerge as the governorship candidate of our great party in the coming days,” he said.
