The Federal Government has deployed 40 Compressed Natural Gas buses, seven electric buses and over 200 CNG-powered tricycles in Kano State as part of efforts to promote cleaner and more affordable transportation.
The Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, Ismaeel Ahmed, disclosed this in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Sunday while marking his first year in office.
Ahmed said the deployment was part of the Federal Government’s plan to expand alternative energy in the transport sector.
“We proudly launched the Northern Corridor of CNG & EV with the deployment of 40 CNG buses, seven electric buses and over 200 CNG-powered tricycles in Kano,” he said.
He added that the initiative had also facilitated the commissioning of CNG and LCNG stations in Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Kaduna, Owerri and other cities.
Ahmed said the agency had also increased the number of CNG-converted vehicles nationwide, launched the 100,000 Conversion Kit Programme and introduced the “Convert Now, Pay Small Small” financing scheme.
“As we begin our second year, our focus is to deepen access to CNG and EV infrastructure, expand refuelling and charging networks, deploy more mass transit vehicles and attract greater private investment,” he said.
