President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday flagged off Section I of the Akwanga–Kaduna–Jos segment of the 700-kilometre Akwanga–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway.
Represented by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, Tinubu said the project is aimed at improving connectivity, boosting economic growth and strengthening national integration.
The President described the road as the fourth legacy highway project under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, the superhighway will strengthen national integration, improve road safety, facilitate trade and unlock economic opportunities across the country.
Tinubu disclosed that the Federal Executive Council approved the 700-kilometre highway, which is being executed in phases to ensure smooth implementation.
He recalled that Section II of the project, linking Gombe and Biu, was flagged off on June 4, while construction has now commenced on the 125-kilometre Akwanga–Kaduna–Jos section.
The President said the highway comprises five sections: Akwanga–Kaduna–Jos (125km), Jos–Bauchi (135km), Bauchi–Gombe (162km), Gombe–Biu (125km), and Biu–Maiduguri (188km).
Tinubu also provided updates on other ongoing federal road projects across the country.
He said Section I of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway has been substantially completed, while Section II in Ogun State has reached 60 per cent completion.
According to him, Sections IIIA and IIIB in Akwa Ibom and Cross River states are about 20 per cent completed, while Sections IVA and IVB in Akwa Ibom have attained five per cent completion. He added that construction has also commenced on Section V.
On the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, Tinubu said Section I in Sokoto State is 40 per cent complete, Section II in Kebbi State has reached 60 per cent completion, Section III in Ogun State stands at 18 per cent, while mobilisation is ongoing on Section IV in Oyo State.
