Panic broke out on Friday morning after a fire engulfed the Bono Tank Farm located within the Best Energy Tank Farm complex in the Ibafon area of Apapa, Lagos State.
The incident forced residents and workers in the area to flee as emergency responders battled to contain the blaze.
Although the cause of the fire had yet to be determined as of the time of filing this report, firefighters from the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, were deployed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby facilities.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident, saying no casualty had been recorded.
She added that firefighters and other emergency responders were fully on the ground to contain the fire and protect adjoining tank farms and other critical infrastructure.
Reports indicated that the fire started in the early hours of Friday after a loud explosion-like sound was heard in the area, triggering panic among residents and workers.
Meanwhile, efforts to get a reaction from the management of Bono Tank Farm and Best Energy Tank Farm were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages sent to their representatives were not responded to as of press time.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, while emergency officials continue efforts to bring the situation under control.
