The Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices has hailed the appointment of Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba as Co-Chair of the Kano State Anti-Drug Abuse Task Force, saying his wealth of experience and leadership will strengthen the fight against drug abuse in the state.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Executive Director of YOSPIS, Zainab Nasir Ahmad.
The organisation described the appointment by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as well deserved, saying it reflected Dr. Magashi’s longstanding commitment to public health, youth development and the fight against drug abuse.
According to the statement, “This appointment is a testament to Dr. Magashi’s unwavering commitment to public health, youth development, and the fight against drug abuse and other social vices. His decades of leadership in public health, policy advocacy, and community development have positively impacted countless lives across Kano State and Nigeria.”
YOSPIS also described Dr. Magashi as a dependable partner in advancing programmes aimed at preventing substance abuse, empowering young people and strengthening health systems.
“As a long-standing partner of YOSPIS, Dr. Magashi has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication to promoting healthier communities and supporting initiatives aimed at preventing substance abuse, empowering young people, and strengthening health systems,” the statement said.
The organisation expressed confidence that his appointment would further strengthen the activities of the task force.
It added, “His expertise, vision, and collaborative leadership will significantly enhance the work of the Task Force.”
YOSPIS further commended the Kano State Government for adopting what it described as an inclusive approach to tackling drug abuse through collaboration with civil society organisations, public health experts and other stakeholders.
“We also commend the Kano State Government for strengthening the fight against drug abuse through strategic collaboration with civil society organizations, public health experts, and other key stakeholders. This inclusive approach is vital to addressing the growing challenge of substance abuse and safeguarding the future of our young people,” the statement added.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Kano State Anti-Drug Abuse Task Force through prevention, awareness campaigns, rehabilitation programmes and community-based interventions aimed at building a safer, healthier and drug-free Kano State.
