2027: APC dismisses alleged defection of members to NDC in Kano

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed claims that some of its members in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State have defected to the National Democratic Congress, NDC.

The party insisted that its members in the area remain united and loyal to the APC leadership.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Auwalu Soja, described the reported defections as false and politically motivated.

According to him, the allegation was a desperate attempt by the Kwankwasiyya movement to divert attention from what he described as its “sinking ship.”

Soja maintained that all major political stakeholders and influential figures in Kumbotso remain members of the APC, adding that the identities of the alleged defectors are unknown to the party.

He said APC members in the area remained committed to the party because of ongoing development projects being executed by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, including the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano, AKK, gas pipeline and the Kaduna-Kano-Maradi standard gauge railway, which pass through parts of Kumbotso.

The APC spokesperson also claimed that party members appreciated Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for attracting investment opportunities to Kumbotso aimed at boosting economic growth and creating jobs for young people.

He urged the Kwankwasiyya movement to focus on addressing what he described as its internal leadership crisis instead of engaging in propaganda against the APC.

According to Soja, Kano voters would not be swayed by what he called the political tactics of the Kwankwasiyya movement, insisting that the NDC was established to serve the interests of a few political leaders.

The APC, therefore, called on residents of the state to disregard reports circulating on social media alleging that its members had defected, insisting that the party remains united and firmly rooted in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
