Appeal Court judgment won’t affect 2027 primaries, candidates – ADC

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has said the Court of Appeal judgment on its party congresses will not affect its direct primaries or the emergence of its candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The party also disclosed that it has commenced the process of appealing the judgment at the Supreme Court, insisting that the appellate court’s decision is legally unsustainable.

In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC assured its members and supporters that the ruling had no impact on its preparations for the 2027 elections.

“The judgment has no effect whatsoever on the direct primaries through which the party’s candidates have emerged at all levels,” the statement said.

The party added that it had already initiated legal steps to challenge the judgment.

“The Party has already commenced the process of appealing the judgment, which we respectfully disagree with and consider to be legally unsustainable,” it stated.

The ADC urged its members to remain calm, expressing confidence that it would continue to pursue its political objectives in line with the Constitution and the rule of law.
