Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans to establish Cottage Industry and Cottage Enterprise Hubs across strategic locations in the state to boost industrialisation, local production and job creation.
The governor made the announcement during an empowerment programme for registered butchers organised by the Cottage Trade and Street Hawking Agency (CTSHA) at the Government House, Kano.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the project has been captured in the state’s 2026 budget.
Yusuf said the hubs would provide shared workspaces, modern equipment, reliable utilities, storage facilities, business support services, skills development and organised market access for artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs.
“The hubs will provide shared workspaces, modern equipment, reliable utilities, storage facilities, business support services, skills development and organised market access to improve productivity and competitiveness,” he said.
The governor added that the facilities would include dedicated sections for butchers, meat processing, leather processing and tannery operations to strengthen the livestock value chain and attract investments.
He said the initiative would reduce production costs, improve product quality, expand market access and create thousands of jobs for youths in meat processing, leather works, packaging, transportation and other related sectors.
Yusuf urged beneficiaries to make good use of the support, maintain high standards of hygiene and professionalism, and encourage others to register with the agency to benefit from future government interventions.
