The Kano State Government has presented details of 18 ongoing and completed development projects worth over N18 billion in Karaye Local Government Area to the Karaye Emirate as part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability and community participation in governance.
The briefing was led by the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, during a visit to the Emir of Karaye, Muhammad Maharaz Karaye.
The ministry’s Information Officer, Sagiru Ado Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the statement, the projects include a completed five-kilometre dualised road, construction of a Neighbourhood Security Watch Division, the Waraka Sexual Assault Referral Centre, installation of an 800KVA generating set at the Kusalla Water Treatment Plant, the 44-kilometre Janguza-Durum-Kabo-Karaye Road, rehabilitation of schools and construction of classroom blocks across the local government area.
Mr Sumaila said the engagement was aimed at keeping host communities informed about the status of government projects while creating an avenue for residents to provide feedback.
The Emir commended the ministry’s transparency initiative and praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration for executing development projects across the emirate.
“We have nothing to say except to commend His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for these remarkable development efforts. We pray that Almighty Allah continues to guide and strengthen him in delivering more dividends of democracy to the people,” the monarch said.
He, however, appealed to the state government to hasten the completion of the 44-kilometre Karaye-Janguza Road and reconstruct city gates affected during the execution of the five-kilometre dualised road project.
“This road serves about five local government areas and is of great economic and social importance. Its timely completion will greatly benefit our people,” he added.
Responding, Mr Sumaila assured the emir that the ministry remained committed to quality project delivery and sustained engagement with citizens.
He also pledged that the ministry’s Civil Infrastructure Department would prepare a report on the concerns raised during the meeting for onward submission to Governor Yusuf for necessary action.
