The All Progressives Congress (APC) Rwinwin Movement, in collaboration with the Albasar Foundation of Saudi Arabia, has launched a free cataract surgery programme across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
The initiative commenced on Saturday in Gwale Local Government Area, where beneficiaries underwent screening ahead of the surgeries.
Chairman of the Rwinwin Movement, QS Auwal Dankano, said the programme was aimed at improving access to quality eye care for residents, particularly those who cannot afford cataract surgery.
According to him, the initiative is being implemented under the theme, *”Renewed Hope Free Cataract Surgery,”* in support of the healthcare agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Kano State Government led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He disclosed that thousands of cataract patients across the state are expected to benefit from the free medical intervention.
“Many people are living with cataracts because they cannot afford the cost of surgery. Through this programme, we are providing the treatment free of charge,” Dankano said.
He added that all beneficiaries screened during the exercise in Gwale would begin undergoing surgery on Sunday at Makkah Specialist Eye Hospital, Kano.
Dankano also appealed to the Kano State Government and well-meaning individuals to continue supporting the movement’s humanitarian activities.
The Rwinwin Movement is an APC support group known for its interventions in youth empowerment, education, and healthcare.
