Thousands of Facebook users experienced difficulties accessing the social media platform on Sunday morning after a widespread disruption affected its desktop version.
Users attempting to log into Facebook via the web were greeted with an error message that read: “Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”
Outage monitoring platform, Downdetector, recorded a sharp spike in complaints shortly before 9:00 a.m., with many users searching for “Facebook down” as the disruption spread.
According to the platform, website access issues accounted for 32 per cent of reported complaints, while login problems made up 26 per cent. Another 22 per cent of users reported issues with the news feed or timeline.
Reacting to the outage, several users took to X to share their experiences.
One user, Kiera, posted, “Uh oh, #FacebookDown,” alongside a screenshot of the error message.
Another user, Athan Hilaki, wrote, “Nooooo! Facebook is down?”
X user Elva C. Withrow, who posts as #ellie_withrow, also asked, “Anyone else is having trouble with Facebook or is it just me? Please comment when anyone have a chance to and thank you.”
Another user, VonRistoffen, said, “Facebook crashed on the web, but the app is working fine. I thought they had banned the account.”
Reports from online forums suggested the disruption affected users across multiple countries, with many indicating that only the desktop version was impacted while the mobile application continued to function normally.
As of the time of filing this report, Meta had yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the outage or when normal service would be fully restored.
