New Kano Revenue Agency chair assumes office, vows transparency

The newly appointed Executive Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Maitama, on Monday assumed office, promising to strengthen the state’s revenue generation through transparency, accountability and teamwork.

Speaking during his inauguration at the agency’s headquarters, Maitama assured members of staff that his administration would be open, transparent and inclusive, with a commitment to improving the state’s internally generated revenue.

The Acting Executive Chairman and Executive Director, Compliance and Enforcement Group, Muhammad Abba Aliyu, welcomed the new chairman and urged staff to give him maximum support.

Aliyu prayed for God’s guidance and wisdom for Maitama, expressing confidence that their cooperation would further boost Kano State’s revenue generation.

In his inaugural address, Maitama thanked God for the opportunity to serve and expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for entrusting him with the leadership of the agency.

“I am honoured and humbled to officially assume duty as the Executive Chairman of KIRS,” he said.

He pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him by the governor and the people of Kano State by delivering on the agency’s mandate.

Maitama also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor and commended the agency’s technical partner, Manam Professional Services, for its role in supporting the transformation of KIRS.

Describing his appointment as a collective responsibility, the KIRS chairman called on management and staff to work together to achieve the agency’s objectives.

He said his administration would prioritise accountability, teamwork and innovation, while focusing on meeting revenue targets, expanding the tax net and deepening Kano State’s tax base.
