A 60-year-old man has died in a hotel in Dutse after reportedly checking in with a 20-year-old woman and later developing breathing difficulties.
The incident occurred at about 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, according to a statement issued by SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, spokesman of the Jigawa State Police Command.
The deceased was said to have developed the medical emergency after requesting a meal at the hotel.
The police said officers attached to the Yalwawa Division responded to a distress call and evacuated the man to the General Hospital, Dutse, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.
“Police detectives thereafter secured the scene and conducted a preliminary examination,” the statement said.
According to the command, food items, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance and other personal effects were recovered from the scene for further examination.
The remains of the deceased were subsequently released to his family for burial after the necessary procedures had been completed.
The 20-year-old woman who was present at the time of the incident is currently cooperating with investigators and providing information to assist in establishing the circumstances surrounding the death.
The police said investigation into the incident was ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, assured the public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, professionally and impartially.
The command also urged members of the public to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information capable of causing unnecessary anxiety or prejudicing the investigation.
