Bandit attacks displace residents of 10 Zamfara communities, 40 abducted

Repeated attacks by bandits have forced residents to flee Tashar Mayanchi and over 10 neighbouring communities in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The attacks, which lasted for four consecutive days, reportedly left several communities largely deserted, with more than 40 residents still in captivity.

A security analyst, Bakatsine, disclosed this in a post on X on Thursday.

He said the residents fled their homes to seek safety following the repeated attacks.

“Yesterday, repeated bandit attacks forced residents to flee Tashar Mayanchi and more than 10 surrounding communities in Maru LGA of Zamfara State, leaving once-thriving villages largely deserted.

“Local sources say more than 40 people remain in captivity after four consecutive days of attacks, raising fears that continued displacement could allow bandits to threaten the Zamfara–Sokoto highway and further isolate affected communities,” he stated.

Bakatsine questioned how many more rural communities would have to be deserted before meaningful security measures were deployed to protect residents.

“How many more rural communities must be emptied before meaningful security reaches there?” he asked.
