The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly targeting tricycle operators in the metropolis.
The suspects, Usman Ashiru, 26, of Rijiyar Lemo, and Abubakar Ali, 28, were arrested after allegedly robbing a tricycle operator at gunpoint in Kano.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
According to him, the incident occurred on July 21, 2026, when the victim, identified as Abdulrahman Atula, 22, of Kawo Hotoro, was allegedly lured by the suspects, drugged and dispossessed of his tricycle.
Kiyawa said the victim’s tricycle, with registration number AJG 170 VC and KAROTA number NSR 0709, was recovered from the suspects following an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Dala Police Division.
He said the victim was taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where he is responding to treatment.
“During the course of investigation, 10 other tricycle operators who were previously robbed of their tricycles using the same modus operandi at Dorayi and Bachirawa Quarters have come forward and positively identified the same suspects as the armed robbers responsible for their attacks,” the statement said.
The command urged other victims of similar attacks to report to the Dala Police Division or contact the DPO on 08036885094.
Kiyawa said investigation was ongoing to arrest more members of the syndicate and recover additional exhibits, adding that the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
