The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kano State Command, has arrested two suspected vandals for allegedly vandalising railway and electrical infrastructure in the state.
The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, disclosed this on Monday in Kano.
According to him, the suspects were arrested in separate intelligence-led operations carried out in Panshekara, Kumbotso Local Government Area, and Yankaba, Nassarawa Local Government Area.
He identified the suspects as Gath Gamaliel, 22, from Zango, Kaduna State, and Salisu Jibrin, 31, a resident of Kurna in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.
Hassan-Agalama said Gamaliel was arrested in possession of 17 vandalised railway clips at Panshekara, while Jibrin, suspected to be a receiver of stolen property, was apprehended at Yankaba when he allegedly arrived to collect 60 kilogrammes of vandalised copper wire.
According to the commandant, the recovered items were believed to have been illegally removed from public infrastructure.
He said the arrests demonstrated the command’s commitment to tackling vandalism and other economic crimes that threaten national development.
Hassan-Agalama added that investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected criminal syndicate.
He stated that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The commandant warned individuals involved in vandalising public infrastructure to desist, stressing that the command would continue to track down and prosecute offenders.
He also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to security agencies to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure.
