Kano Rail: Groundbreaking Nears as Yusuf Meets MOFI Team

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has received a delegation from the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and Mota-Engil Nigeria ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kano Light Rail Project.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the statement, the delegation, led by the Managing Director of MOFI, Dr. Armstrong Takang, and the Chairman of Mota-Engil Nigeria, Kola Karim, met with the governor in Abuja to brief him on preparations for the commencement of the project.

The statement noted that the Kano Light Rail Project, approved by President Bola Tinubu at a contract sum of N1.05 trillion, is expected to transform urban transportation in the state by improving connectivity, reducing traffic congestion and boosting economic activities.

Speaking during the meeting, Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and the project contractors to ensure the successful execution of the rail project.

He described the initiative as a strategic investment that would reinforce Kano’s status as the commercial hub of Northern Nigeria while providing residents with a modern, safe and efficient mass transit system.

The governor also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the project and commended the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Rep. Abubakar Bichi, for his legislative support towards its implementation.
