President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent approval of N46.39 billion for the rehabilitation of the runways and taxiways at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) adds to the growing list of infrastructure projects being executed in Kano under his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The airport upgrade includes the installation of Category II (CAT II) airfield lighting, which will enable aircraft to operate more safely during poor weather conditions such as heavy rain, haze, and low visibility. The project is also expected to improve operational safety, reduce flight delays, and increase the airport’s capacity to handle more traffic. The rehabilitation is expected to be completed within 24 weeks.
Earlier this week, Federal Government representatives visited Kano to inform Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf that work would soon commence on the N1.05 trillion Kano Light Rail Project, approved by President Tinubu.
The Kano Light Rail Project is the largest single-state project approved by the President. It is expected to transform urban transportation in Kano, improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and stimulate economic activities across the state.
Similarly, the newly approved Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, is expected to admit its first set of students this year in various fields of science and technology. The institution will provide thousands of young people from Kano, the North-West, and across Nigeria with access to affordable higher education while creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
Before the end of the year, passengers are expected to travel by rail between Kano and Kaduna, another major infrastructure project under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Several other projects are also ongoing under the Tinubu administration, including roads, dams, hospitals, higher institutions, and housing developments.
The people of Kano are benefiting from the Renewed Hope Agenda through infrastructure development as well as numerous appointments into various Federal Government agencies and institutions.
As the 2027 presidential election approaches, the Kano APC leadership should urge President Tinubu to approve the Greater Kano Water Supply Project to address the state’s persistent water shortage.
Kanawa are expected to demonstrate their appreciation for the President by giving him overwhelming support in the 2027 election, with a target of no fewer than two million votes out of Kano’s more than six million registered voters.
