The Governing Council of the Federal University Dutse (FUD) has approved the promotion of 48 academic staff members, comprising 21 Professors and 27 Readers, with effect from October 1, 2025.
The decision was taken during the 8th Regular Meeting of the University’s 4th Governing Council, held on May 7, 2026.
The development was contained in a statement signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs, Abdullahi Yahaya Bello.
According to the statement, the Council approved the promotions after considering the report and recommendations of the Appointments and Promotions Committee (Academic).
“The 4th Governing Council of Federal University Dutse (FUD), at its 8th Regular Meeting held on Thursday, 7th May, 2026, considered the report and recommendations of the Appointments and Promotions Committee (Academic) and approved the promotion of twenty-one (21) academic staff to the rank of Professor and twenty-seven (27) to the rank of Reader, with effect from 1st October, 2025,” the statement read.
Among those elevated to the rank of Professor are Dr. Umar Mukhtar, Dr. Aliyu Abdurrahman and Dr. Gama Emmanuel Nkwi, all promoted to Professor of Agricultural Economics.
Others include Dr. Bashir Garba Muktar and Dr. Ado Garba, who were promoted to Professor of Agricultural Extension; Dr. Danmaigoro Olarenwaju (Agronomy); Dr. Ibrahim Sanusi Chinade (Literature in English); Dr. Nasiruddeen Ibrahim Ahmad (Arabic Linguistics); Dr. Philip N. Ndubueze (Sociology – Criminology and Security Studies); and Dr. Lamidi Kamal Olaniyi (Political Science – Nigerian Government and Politics).
Also promoted to the rank of Professor are Dr. Zahraddeen Sufyan (Computer Science); Dr. Sulaiman Muhammad Inuwa (Biology – Ecology and Biodiversity); Dr. Balogun Joshua Babalola (Biology – Parasitology, Public and Environmental Health); Dr. Shiaka Gimba Peter (Microbiology – Environmental Microbiology); Dr. Muhammad Isa Auyo (Botany); Dr. Aminu Ma’aruf Nass (Applied Mathematics); Dr. Babangida Ibrahim Babura (Statistics); Dr. Shina Isma’il Sadiq (Chemistry – Natural Product Chemistry); Dr. Hajara Momoh (Organic Chemistry); Dr. Tasi’u Zangina (Physics – Materials Science); and Dr. Hafeez Yusuf Hafeez (Physics – Solid State Physics).
The Council also approved the promotion of 27 lecturers to the rank of Reader across various departments, including Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, Animal Science, Crop Science, Forestry and Wildlife Management, Soil Science, Economics and Development Studies, English and Linguistics, Political Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Animal and Environmental Biology, Microbiology and Biotechnology, Plant Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics.
The statement noted that all the approved promotions will take effect from October 1, 2025, in line with the Council’s decision.
