The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has confirmed that it is investigating the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh, over allegations levelled against him by social media activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, VDM.
The Force said AIG Jimoh has been invited by the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, as part of an internal administrative review, while the criminal case connected to the allegations is already before a court of competent jurisdiction.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the criminal matter was investigated and prosecuted following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP, stressing that the case is now sub judice.
“The criminal matter referenced in public commentary was investigated and is now before a court of competent jurisdiction, following the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). As the matter is sub judice, its adjudication rests solely with the judiciary,” the statement said.
The Force also disclosed that the FCID, Abuja, on July 30, 2026, formally invited VeryDarkMan to appear before investigators and provide evidence to support the allegations he made in the public domain.
It noted that the investigation demonstrates the Force’s commitment to accountability, adding that allegations of misconduct are investigated through established channels regardless of the rank of the officer involved or the public profile of the complainant.
The police reiterated that disciplinary procedures within the Force are guided by the Constitution, the Police Act 2020, Police Regulations, Force Orders and other extant administrative provisions.
While reaffirming Nigerians’ constitutional right to freedom of expression and to demand accountability, the Force cautioned against the use of unsubstantiated allegations or media campaigns to influence disciplinary actions outside due process.
It maintained that any officer found culpable after investigation would be sanctioned in accordance with the law, while false allegations deliberately aimed at damaging the reputation of officers or the institution could attract appropriate legal action.
The Force urged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation extended by the FCID and cooperate with the ongoing administrative investigation, while allowing the judicial process in the separate criminal case to run its course.
It reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency and the impartial administration of justice, stressing that no officer is above the law and that every genuine complaint will be thoroughly investigated.
