FG disburses N11.58bn to 178,342 Jigawa households

The Federal Government has disbursed N11.58 billion to 178,342 beneficiaries in Jigawa State under the Renewed Hope Social Security Grant.

The programme, which began in January 2026, is designed to support vulnerable households, improve nutrition and stimulate economic activities in rural communities.

The first phase saw 126,639 households receive payments, while the second phase is ongoing with the distribution of 25,300 payment cards worth N1.9975 billion.

The government also increased the grant from N10,000 to N25,000 per cycle to address the rising cost of living.

One of the beneficiaries, Binta Musa from Rajo community in Dutse LGA, said she received N75,000 in February and invested N30,000 in frying and selling awara.

“Today, I fry it for buyers in both the morning and evening. This has significantly improved our livelihood.

“This grant has rekindled my hope of having children who are well-fed, healthy and educated,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Rabi Ismail Kiyawa, said she invested N40,000 in cap-making.

“I now hire other people to make caps based on customer demand, and my income has increased,” she said.

The Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties and Humanitarian Affairs said the programme was already transforming the lives of beneficiary families.

The commissioner also assured residents that the government would continue to provide updates as the implementation progresses.
