Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has described the orange economy as a vital catalyst for job creation and economic growth.
Yusuf stated this while receiving a delegation from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, led by Brigadier General L.A. Jimoh, mni, at a dinner marking the end of its one-week study tour of Kano.
Represented by his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, the governor said strategic investment in the orange economy would add significant value to Kano’s economy and contribute to Nigeria’s development.
He commended NIPSS for selecting Kano as the destination for its Senior Executive Course 48, 2026 study tour, which focused on “Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development in Nigeria.”
Yusuf said the delegation’s engagements with government institutions, traditional leaders, private sector operators and residents, as well as visits to cultural sites and markets, would provide valuable insights into Kano’s development realities and entrepreneurial potential.
The governor said, “Strategic investments and focus on the orange economy would significantly add value to economic development within the state and across Nigeria at large.”
Jimoh, in his remarks, commended the Kano State Government for promoting creativity, entrepreneurship and economic expansion.
He described Kano as a major centre of enterprise, innovation, craftsmanship, trade and human capital, noting its strong potential in textiles, leatherwork, fashion, agriculture, manufacturing and creative industries.
He also highlighted the revival of 26 entrepreneurship skills training schools by the state government, saying the initiative had equipped thousands of youths with vocational skills, working tools and start-up support.
Jimoh said such initiatives could help the orange economy generate wealth, empower women and youths, preserve cultural heritage and strengthen Kano’s contribution to the national economy.
