The Imam of Masjid Al-Uwaisul Qarni, Kofar Mata, Kano, Sheikh Malam Jamil Haruna Kofar Mata, has urged Muslims to uphold the teachings and character of Prophet Muhammad to promote peace, unity and responsible conduct in society.
Jamil made the call during the mosque’s annual Mawlid celebration, which brought together worshippers and members of the community to commemorate the birth and life of the Prophet.
The cleric said loving the Prophet should go beyond words, urging Muslims to demonstrate it through their conduct, compassion, patience and respect for others.
“There is no one in the whole world whom Allah loves more than Prophet Muhammad. As long as his honour continues to be attacked and people continue to speak carelessly about him and his parents, there will be no day when we completely come out of the calamities we are facing.
“The solution is for us to correct ourselves. But if we do not correct ourselves, there will be no day of escape from these difficulties,” he said.
Jamil also urged the government to take deliberate attacks and disrespect against the Prophet’s honour seriously and take responsible action where necessary.
He called on imams and Islamic scholars to teach the authentic teachings and character of the Prophet, particularly his values of love, peace, patience, compassion and unity.
The cleric cautioned religious leaders against turning mosques and places of learning into platforms for deepening divisions among Muslims.
He said such places should instead promote understanding, mutual respect and stronger communities.
The Mawlid celebration ended with prayers and further reminders on the need for Muslims to emulate the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
